Bracken Bashing with Stump up For Trees charity

With the aim to plant 1,000,000 trees, Stump Up For Trees are an ambitious, community-based charity based in the Brecon Beacons area of South Wales. Rather than taking over arable farming land, the charity works with local farmers to cultivate the poorest quality agricultural land into restorative woodlands using native species of trees. In this way, they hope to increase biodiversity and provide other environmental benefits.
With great care, SUFT take trees from seedlings right through to juvenile trees in their nursery, based just outside of Abergavenny. These are then planted on land which has to cleared by hand in the majority of cases, due to the difficult geographical conditions that this type of land presents.
The charity has a small, yet hard-working team which is supported by their network of generous volunteers, as well as their corporate partners. Welsh Power is one such corporate supporter, where all employees are invited to spend a day each summer supporting the charity with their nursery management and land cultivation. Though hard work, it provides us with a rewarding opportunity to see the benefits of positive action on the environment, and to support the health of the local ecosystem.
